MESMERISING VINTAGE... NZ’S GREATEST PINOT NOIR

Unmissable... our release price @ $74.90

Honestly... if this Ata Rangi 2107 were made in Burgundy, France... it’s quality would command $100’s of dollars per bottle! It is outrageous value at $74.90!

There has been a long succession of superb Ata Rangi Pinots in the last decade. It is hard to separate many of them on quality so my expectation each vintage is rightfully very high! Even so... I was not prepared for the total seduction and immersion I experienced with this spectacular 2017 vintage. I do not recall ever having tasted a Pinot so perfect in every way... our panel gave it 98/100 (as did several top critics) – if I was in the tasting room that day I would have been arguing for a 100 point rating. However, 98 or 100... there is just a 2-point difference. And I had an unfair advantage... I took a bottle home and enjoyed it with dinner and really got to experience this 2017 at its utmost best!

In preparing our offer for release... I researched the critics reviews to see their various takes on this 2017. The review I thought really nailed this wine and described to a tee the experience I had... was the one below from Leading international critic James Suckling...

“Really pristine fruit aromas here with such pure, ripe red cherries and roses, as well as gently earthy and spicy nuances. Very fresh, precisely ripe and a pinot you can sit and just breathe in for days. The palate has a velvety layer that few others manage to find; silky at the core, succulent in the center and delivering such vibrant, red-cherry flavors in a long, pristine and fresh, red-cherry finish.” JAMES SUCKLING

I have always considered Ata Rangi NZ’s benchmark Pinot Noir... few can match it for quality and complexity... and none for its consistency. Frankly, it has the ethereal complexity, structure, umami, and perfection of top-level Grand Cru red Burgundy... yet can be enjoyed for a fraction of their price!

$300-$500 dollars for a serious Grand Cru Burgundy quality equivalent... or $449.40 for 6 bottles ($74.90/bottle) of 2017 Ata Rangi? It is a no brainer... the same quality experience can be had six times over for the cost of one Burgundy!

A HUGE shout out to visionary Ata Rangi founder Clive Paton and wife Phyllis (founded Ata Rangi in 1980) and to outstanding NZ winemaker Helen Masters for creating such a mesmerising Pinot Noir. Make sure you get your order in at our special release price of $74.90/bottle. ENJOY! JEFF

Description

Arguably New Zealand's finest Pinot Noir, certainly if track records are taken into account, Ata Rangi have been doing Pinot Noir better and for longer than anyone. An incredibly consistent wine since the early 1980s, they've had a dream run even by their lofty standards with four of the finest vintages ever in succession. Bob Campbell MW rates the wine with a perfect 5 stars with Sam Kim and Huon Hooke also rating it near-perfect (98 and 97 respectively). Easily mistaken for a red Burgundy, the 2017 Ata Rangi Pinot Noir is an instant classic and a must for any serious wine collector.

Smells

Insanely complex with fragrant red and black fruits, herbal notes, thyme and freshly mown hay.

Tastes

Immensely concentrated and still very densely packed at this early stage, one can get a glimpse into the future of this embryonic star. Deep, dark flavours of cherries, spices and dried herbs. Give this wine a few years and then enjoy from 2023 until 2035 at least. A legend in the making.
