Description
Two plots of Chaumes from the very fine Meo-Camuzet domaine go into this wine (Les Chaumes, 1er Cru Vosne-Romanee), one planted in the 1950s and the other 1970s; 50–70-year-old vines…. Say no more. The house style is that of powerful wines as the winemaking stamp is strong, punch downs are frequent (in Burgundy there is a movement toward gentle techniques of late and less oak) and aged in 50% new oak barrels. They do have impact and power to last the distance and will age well in a temperature-controlled cellar.
Smells
high tone blue fruits flood the senses with a cooling and refreshing spicy note layered with green tea and a floral lift.
Tastes
The dense purple colour is captivating. Succulent fruit initially is very enticing, with a sleek, beautifully textured mid-palate with ripe, red, and black cherry flavours, liquorice, and a hint of spice. Compelling on the palate with a long, lingering finish, with a touch of warmth, consistent with the warm vintage of 2020. Perfect with game meats but needs 5-7 years+ for best results.
