Description
The Clayvin Vineyard came into the spotlight and earned its famous reputation as one of NZ’s greatest Single Vineyards under the stewardship of Fromm wines. Several years ago, in their quest to make NZ’s finest Single Vineyard wines, particularly Pinot Noir, the Giesen brothers purchased Clayvin Vineyard. It was a little under par at the time and their substantial investment into fine tuning this amazing vineyard to where it should be has paid off enormously. You only need to raise this 2016 Clayvin Pinot to your lips once... to know this is a special site yielding grapes of character, varietal intensity/purity and absolute balance. Clayvin Vineyard Pinot Noir is destined for international recognition under the Giesen stewardship.
Smells
Ripe summer plum and red cherry, delicate floral and new leather aromas, subtle dried herbs.
Tastes
Ripe dark berry fruit with fine cedary, subtle toasty oak and a finely creamed texture. Gorgeous silky soft grainy tannins embrace the luxurious body of flavour with a subtle, complex array of dried herbs and baking spices lingering in the long and deliciously refreshing finish. It will continue to evolve through 2026+ but is so delectable now it’s hard to put the glass down. Made for mushroomy pasta dishes and gamey meats.
We taste, rate & guarantee every wine we sell.
