Champion Pinot Noir & Champion Wine of Show at NZ’s National “Aotearoa Wine Awards, Gold Medal + 97/100 FWD. It’s outstanding Pinot Noir from the Southern Valleys, a sub region of Marlborough rapidly becoming a hotspot for growing premium, highly awarded NZ Pinot Noir. $40.00 at Cellar Door… when it came across our tasting table, we were immediately wowed by it and gave it a unanimous 97/100. We then negotiated a stunning price on their last stocks, which we are passing onto directly at $24.99… a saving of $15.00 bottle. Fortunately, we moved quickly before the National “Aotearoa Wine Awards” results came out. With its subsequent Double Champion Trophy success, we would not have gotten this unbelievable price after the show results were announced. Saint Clair's specialist Pioneer Block range comprises small-parcel wines handcrafted to reflect the unique influence of terroir on grape varieties grown within the same region. Pioneer Block 5 is comprised of fruit sourced predominantly from a single vineyard in the heart of the Omaka Valley, from 100% clone 10/5. This vineyard is traditionally harvested later in the season allowing a long ripening period which increases the intensity of flavours. 2021 is a fantastic vintage creating finer tannin/acid to showcase the perfectly ripe fruit. It has serious aging potential through 2030 if well stored.

a heady perfume of red fruits, raspberry, red cherry and wild blackberry with forest floor, bramble, and savoury nuances.

More Burgundy like in colour, the wine builds and builds on the palate with a rich array of red and black fruits and savoury characters unfolding throughout. Beautifully rounded structure with firm, fine tannins, a chalky texture, and salivating finish buoyed by fresh, balanced acidity. Drinking well now with game, lamb, pasta or cheese… but worth keeping a few bottles in the cellar to enjoy 2027-2030.
