Description
Not to be confused with their American winery namesake, Chalk Hill is a small family-owned winery that planted its first vines over 120 years ago, 1897 to be exact. Dedicated to making high-quality small-batch wines, the team at Chalk Hill have gone about producing pure expressions of each variety with a strong sense of place shining in their wines. This McLaren Vale Shiraz is a perfect example, with abundant ripe fruit with gentle chocolate characters, and is a wine that will age gracefully for 5-7 years.
Smells
Sweet and generous fruit aromas, raspberries, blackberries, currants, and dark cherry, with hints of No8 dark chocolate mint biscuits.
Tastes
The generosity of the fruit instantly seduces, flavour of berry pastilles, laced with dark chocolate, mocha, coffee grind and fresh mint flow from start to finish on the very long palate. A gorgeous and succulently fruited Shiraz, a treat for those dark winter nights especially with hearty stews and slow-cooked meats or a summer BBQ wine, where decanting just prior to serving is recommended.
