Description
Since 1912 the Osborne family have tended vineyards in the McLaren Vale. The current family winemaker/caretaker of this generational wine producer is Chester Osborne, who has been awarded Australian winemaker of the year on multiple occasions. For this Footbolt Shiraz… small batches are hand harvested, with over a half of the harvest being traditionally foot trodden to gently extract fine tannins, the combined harvest is then crushed in a traditional basket press. Add to that 12-18 months ageing in a mix of quality French and American oak and you have a very seriously made Shiraz!
Smells
Complex aromas of blackstrap liquorice, clove, nutmeg, dark berries, plums and spicy oak.
Tastes
A luxurious feel in the mouth as a velvety mix of dark fruits, toasty oak, spices, chocolate, savoury elements and liquorice unravel. The tannins are very fine and caressing… a Shiraz with substance and elegance and a cocoa powder like texture. Seriously delicious, it over delivers on price and will be terrific drinking now through 2027.
