Description

Crozes-Hermitage is the largest of the Northern Rhone appellations, covering 11 communes in the Drome department. The soils in the North mostly consist of granite subsoils following on from the soils of the Hermitage Hill whereas in the south there are alluvial glacial terraces. A region of diversity offering excellent value for money. The only permissible red grape is Syrah, and often wines of the region have aromas of cured meat, layered with complexity. A region which many up-and-coming young producers have invested in as the land is slightly more affordable, a region to watch.

Smells

a deep, dark brooding bouquet with spicy, dark berries, white and black pepper with a vibrant energetic red fruit streak.

Tastes

a classic example of Crozes-Hermitage with a dense core of fruit, blackberries, mulberries with pepper, cinnamon, and spice flavours where the fruit is harnessed by suave, supple tannins. This wine has it all for drinking now, fruit weight, complexity, and a firm tannin spine, all in harmony. However, this will cellar 5-8years easily. Serve with roast lamb, beef, or venison.
