Description
Elephant Hill's Estate Syrah is one of the benchmark wines in the region, regularly winning Golds and Trophies wherever it's shown. This Reserve might be considered a change in pace from previous vintages. Still a wine of majestic beauty and concentration, but with a touch more refinement and elegance. Richly coloured and incredibly complex on bouquet, it can sit on the world stage with the Hermitages and Cote Rotie’s of France. The price remains incredibly fair, but don't count on it staying that way. The Elephant is out of its cage!
Smells
A thrilling array of vanilla, rose petals, peppercorns, cardamom, raspberry, blackberry, leather, and violets.
Tastes
Spicy and lavish in the mouth, with gorgeous silky concentration and smooth oak tannin expanding the mid-palate. It finishes long with creamy vanilla, fresh berry, spice flavours with a grainy textural feel prevalent. One of the great Syrahs, it's still very youthful so will reward cellaring (drink the Estate while you wait!) Now to 2032+.
