Vines only take up ten acres of the sprawling Glenguin property. They specialise in two varieties as they believe they're best suited to the Hunter Valley - Semillon and Shiraz. The vines are over 25 years old and descend from Busby's original cuttings from Kirkton in the 1820's. The don't produce much - a couple of hundred cases of each wine, and they chose this place specifically for it's potential to produce premium Shiraz.

The property is owned by the Tedder brothers. Robin is Australia's seventh Master of wine, a highly acclaimed winemaker, and a Shiraz specialist. Andrew is the Viticulturist with a flare for winemaking too. He has worked across several regions, and was the first Australian Viticulturist to be nominated for Winemaker of the Year during his tenure at Shadowfax Winery.

Clearly these guys know what they're doing, and world-renowned wine critic James Halliday tends to agree, bestowing the highly coveted Five-Star Winery rating to Glenguin Estate in 2021.

One sip of this Stonybroke Shiraz confirms their talents, and also upholds their confidence in their unique site. It has old school Hunter Shiraz charm in bucket loads! There is a rare balance of savoury and fruit in this wine, they work together harmoniously to create a complex and hugely satisfying experience.

On the nose it's leather, spice, and coffee grounds balanced with hints of plum, cherry and cinnamon. For a wine that is so powerful and deep on the palate, it also has a rare elegance with super-silky structure and harmonious fruit. But it's the nostalgic savoury earthiness, that will take you back to the days of good old Hunter Valley Shiraz, which are hard to find these days.

Enjoy a trip down memory lane with this old vine, classic styled Hunter Shiraz, from the Shiraz specialists, at the Five-Star Rated winery - Glenguin Estate.

But hurry, there's not much of this incredible wine and we've knocked $10 off the price for our discerning Constellation Drive clients at just $24.99. Shop Now while stocks last!

Description

New to Fine Wine Delivery Co and oh what an entrance!!! This Hunter Valley Shiraz from Master of Wine guru Robin Tedder, brings back fond memories. Memories of how Shiraz from the Hunter used to taste. That of wines with an earthy, savoury complexity, showing aromas of leather, spice and milk chocolate. The wine delights on every level and makes me feel like I am greeting an old friend, thank you Robin for a trip down memory lane.

Smells

a complex and perfumed delight with aromas reminiscent of sitting in your favourite armchair, leather and spice with coffee grinds notes in the air, all interwoven with red plums, cherries, cinnamon and forest floor nuances.

Tastes

the palate is silky-smooth with poise and even elegance, yet the power and depth builds in the glass and the mouth, and more so with every sip.. The savoury flavours on the palate delight as much as the bouquet, which brought back fond memories. There is a harmony of fruit, complexity and the fine tannin structure exuding quality and class. A wine that is very enjoyable now and hard to resist, but will cellar well for 4-5 years+ and compliment roasted red meats.

We taste, rate & guarantee every wine we sell.
