2019 Guigal Cote du Rhone Rouge

Robert Parker called Guigal… the #1 value Côtes du Rhône. It’s been the most iconic, popular Côtes du Rhône for 30+ years. Jeb Dunnuck rightly declares 2019… “a no-brainer purchase”.

Description

Guigal famously put the Northern Rhône on the map. Their influence equally profound in the Southern Rhône where their Côtes du Rhône is widely considered an appellation benchmark. It's predominantly Syrah 50%, with 40% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre. Also, unusually for many Côtes du Rhône, it's quite a complex and serious wine. The aromas and palate revealing genuine complexity along with the charm and structure of 18 months oak ageing prior to bottling.

Smells

Savoury meaty, dark, and serious aromas including black pepper, tobacco, cherry liqueur, and blackberries.

Tastes

Lovely freshness and focus with clear notes of liquorice and cherry layered over black fruits, cured meats and savoury spices. The finely grained tannin and fine acidity energise the finish making a truly gratifying food wine. This 2019 is spectacular, speaking of the excellent vintage and being one of their finest Côtes du Rhône. Enjoy now to 2028 with roast lamb or other red meats.
