Description

"Muscular with great vitality and sensuality, Hill of Grace 2017 combines gravitas with grace. Supple swathes of fruit –blackberry with blueberry and red cherry – come scented with china ink, tinder bush, black pepper, star anise, wattleseed, tea leaf and baking spices. Tobacco pouch, mulch and subtle game undertones strike a savoury note. Rafts ofseamless, spicy tannins build and buoy layers of flavour. Terrific authority, strength, complexity and length."
99/100, Sarah Ahmed, Decanter.

"Grace by name, grace by nature; it's a perfectly framed, elegant snapshot of pristine fruit, site and season. Precisely ripened berry fruits are underscored with notes of Chinese five-spice, sage, jasmine, licorice, mocha, blackberry pastille, charcuterie, wild flowers and cherry clafoutis. Pitch-perfect and elegant on the palate, the tannin-acid architecture tuned and sympatico with the pristine ancestor-vine fruit and a very long, silken finish that resonates with style and place. My goodness it's lovely." 99/100, Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion.

Hill of Grace is surely one of the most evocative phrases in the world of wine. It is a translation from the German ‘Gnadenberg’, a region in Silesia, and the name given to the lovely Lutheran church that overlooks the vineyard. The 4ha single-vineyard shiraz planting is situated at the historic village of Parrot Hill 4km north-west of the Henschke Cellars. Everyone wants at least one in their cellar and in reality, a whole lot more, but they are as rare as hen’s teeth, don’t let this opportunity slip by…

Smells

Lifted, exotic aromas of star anise, sage, bay leaf and within a fennel frame, dark and brooding blackberry, Satsuma plum, mulberry, and red currant notes.

Tastes

Deep crimson in colour with violet hues. The palate is rich, plush, and concentrated with amazing depth and complexity from succulent plum, blackberry and blueberry revealing star anise, black pepper, charcuterie, and cedar. Balanced acidity provides freshness and structure, while layers of silky tannins result in an elegant finish with exceptional length. This will live as long as you can resist and then some.
