Description
Depressed fine wine markets and the hospitality slowdown have forced many wineries to cash up growing surplus stocks with compelling price reductions on flagship wines. This icon winery is cashing up their $60.00 bottle 2021 (outstanding wine) vintage Prestige Syrah at a staggering $24.99. With 2016 their current release… and 3 vintages resting in their cellars… cash is premium, and even more importantly they’re strapped for room. Handpicked old vine fruit, basket pressed, traditionally hand plunged daily during and post fermentation, followed by extended maturation in fine French barriques - it’s got a Prestige Level Winemaking stamp all over it. A Syrah showing all the hallmarks of the variety, region, and the superb vintage, exhibited by the gorgeous white pepper and roasted red pepper aromas, making one think they could be tasting top level Syrah from the Northern Rhone. At $24.99 it’s a bargain of mammoth proportions that should not be overlooked… a rare opportunity to drink top-shelf Red that most drinkers would have to walk past at $60.00 bottle. It has impressive aging potential through 2030+.
Smells
A potpourri of mulberry, cranberry and blackberry with an enticing thread of roasted red and green peppers plus classic HB white pepper aromas.
Tastes
A vibrant and streamlined palate with a dense core of fruit running the full length drenching your tastebuds… repeatedly drawing you back for another sip.
The herbal intrigue of the bouquet re-emerges on the palate, again reminiscent of Northern Rhone Syrah with roasted pepper and pink peppercorn flavours spicing up the luscious finish. A vibrant, energetic wine with stylish tannins drinking well now through 2030+ … it will excite even more if partnered with roasted red meats.
We taste, rate & guarantee every wine we sell.
