Aussies pay AUD $30.00, our price $19.99

Final 66 x 6-pack release of the iconic Jim Barry Lodge Hill Shiraz, stunning award laden 2017 vintage that is – AUD$30... spectacular at $19.99 - first in!

The name Jim Barry is etched permanently in Australian winemaking fokelore...more specifically as a pioneer of the Clare Valley region. Lodge Hill is iconic in Aussie Shiraz drinking circles. It relentlessly gathers Champion Trophies & Gold Medals from vintage to vintage. This stunning 2017 has amassed Champion Trophy... 4 Gold Medals... 94/100 James Halliday and a well-deserved 95/100 Fine Wine Delivery panel on which I sat.

We sold NZ’s initial allocation in a heartbeat last year... such is consumer demand for this iconic Shiraz. On the back of my personal relationship with Peter Barry that goes back 30-years... we have been given a second opportunity... these are the last stocks anywhere and there are only 60-dozen (120 x 6-packs). You can pay AUD$30 in Australia so it creates a lot of buzz and sells quickly when we get it to $19.99 KIWI... it’s a large saving on a stunning full-bodied Shiraz with undeniable quality and pedigree.

The late Jim Barry began purchasing his own land from 1959 through until 1969 when he helped the Taylor Family establish their vineyards... before beginning his own legendary journey in 1974. He continued to purchase special parcels of land throughout the Clare including the now famous Lodge Hill block... plus a small holding in Coonawarra.

The Wine...

This 2017 beauty is chocked full of spicy black fruit, laced with liquorice, bitter dark chocolate and fine dried savoury herbs and spices. The silky, but nicely firm tannins are supported by juicy acids to keep the generous flavours in balance... you can expect those savoury elements to heighten through 2024-2027

Lodge Hill Shiraz has an impressive history of winning Trophies and Gold medals – 2017 vintage is the fifth consecutive vintage of Lodge Hill to go Gold at the Clare Valley Wine Show... and has racked up 3 additional Gold’s + Champion Trophy & 94/100 James Halliday. 2016 Lodge Hill won a Gold Medal at 6 Capital City Shows across Australasia... and Winestar Journal gave the 2014 a whopping 97/100 and their Top Wine of the year. 2017 was a special vintage... so you can expect total immersion and pleasure from this 2017 Lodge Hill Shiraz if you get your name on a 6-pack or two... it will drink beautifully for a decade.

Enjoy, Jeff

When Jim Barry first set foot on Lodge Hill, he knew it would grow into a very special vineyard and it has. Famous these days for its Single Vineyard Riesling and this Lodge Hill Shiraz, which has won a cupboard full of Champion Trophies & Gold Medals over many years. The Lodge Hill Shiraz vineyard, on the Clare Valley’s eastern ranges, has soils of rich, chocolatey loam over almost vertical sheets of rock. The cracks between the rock have filled with soil, providing passage for the vine roots and free drainage - the ideal environment for low-yielding Shiraz vines.

Engaging aromas of red and black cherries and plum with clove and vanilla spice, florals, anise, mixed herbs and warm, minty notes.

The palate is bursting with black fruits infused with spices, liquorice, bitter chocolate and alluring dried herb complexities. Embraced by smooth finely gripping tannins, sweet spice and black berry flavours that are deliciously buoyed on the finish by soft juicy acids. Seriously gluggable but do enjoy with savoury and lightly spiced meats and pizza dishes now through 2025.
