Description
Understudy to the great “Armagh”... benefits from its big brother and is infinitely more affordable!
Many wine professionals consider The McRae Wood Shiraz to be the understudy to the legendary “Armagh”… it’s next in line for fruit selection, its fruit richness, sweet oak, silky tannins and considerable length reflect its uncompromising winemaking and the strong 2016 vintage. Its concentration of dark Clare Valley fruit and svelte mouth feel make it utterly drinkable with a few years bottle age (4 at the time of writing this)... but it has the potential to age through 2030 with ease.

Smells
Deep, dark smoky notes of plum, chocolate, blackcurrant and liquorice.
Tastes
Rich and full with lots of deep, dark, smoky notes and Christmas cake, the tannins are serious, but very ripe and yielding, allowing access to the luxurious fruit. Easy to like in its youth, the wine will develop into another Clare Valley Classic between now and 2030 – please decant for up to 2 hours if enjoying in its youth. Made for a juicy piece of beef, cut is your choice.
