Description
The ultimate expression of winemaking at Mission, Huchet wines proudly honour Brother Cyprian Huchet. The son of a French vigneron from the Loire, he became New Zealand’s pioneering winemaker whilst working at Mission in 1871. Produced in very limited quantities and only from outstanding years. His inspiration is a legacy we continue. The 2019 Huchet Syrah was the only New Zealand Syrah to win a master's medal in the 2022 Global Wine Masters Competition. The competition is judged blind by some of the finest palates in the world. This allows the preconceived notions based on the location of the wine to be deducted, and the importance focused purely on style. And NZ Syrah is starting to shine…and this wine proves it.
Smells
a complex, dynamic and intense bouquet, showing rich black fruits, plum and raspberry notes, intertwined with a unique vineyard character, soft white spices, cedar and sandalwood.
Tastes
A wine of immense concentration, weight, and power, full-bodied and robust, yet balanced with a perfumed twist adding an elegant charm and a long finish. The tannins simply, charm, coat and entice the taste buds, leaving a long lingering aftertaste. Wow, stunning NZ Syrah. The vintage will cellar gracefully for 10-20 years – the perfect gift or special occasion wine, it comes packed in its own individual gift box.
