Description
A blend of full red varieties, like Shiraz, fortified and made into a Tawny port, meaning aged in barrel for a very long, hence the golden/bronze colour with a green tinge at the hue. Combine this with the quality level of ‘Rare’ and you have something very special. Rare in Rutherglen fortified classifications means the wine must age in barrel for a minimum of 20 years. You are drinking a bit of history right there. Not to be sniffed at lightly as this is a heavenly experience.
Smells
what a nose, aromas of toffee, toffee apple, Crème Brulee, coffee, toasted vanilla pods, toasty oak.
Tastes
there is an explosion in your mouth of almonds, raisins, coffee, toffee, toasty oak and vanilla with hints of treacle and burnt butter sauce with sugar, on the finish. There is a harmony of sweetness, acidity and the nutty, rancio flavours. Every sip is heavenly and to experience a Rare is worth every penny.. Once opened store the wine in the fridge and it will last 6 months or so without deteriorating.
We taste, rate & guarantee every wine we sell.
