Highly Acclaimed, Adelaide Hills Shiraz.

An absolute masterclass cool climate collectible Shiraz with critic ratings from 95-97 out of 100. Treat yourself to a truly defining wine moment in your life.

Established in 1989 by wine loving cousins Michael Hill Smith MW and Martin Shaw. Michael was the first Australian to pass the rigorous Master of Wine exams, and Martin a Winemaker that has worked and consulted throughout the world - including here in NZ.

Together they saw the huge potential in the burgeoning Adelaide Hills sub region, and with their combined knowledge they set a path that would introduce the area to the rest of the wine loving world

These days Adelaide Hills has built a reputation as Australia's most exciting wine region. Bordered by Barossa and Eden Valleys, as well as McLaren Vale, it enjoys a much higher elevation making it cooler and wetter than its South Australian neighbours. Growing in cool climate areas is not without its challenges and they realized early on that site selection and good vineyard management were critical. To assist in growing the very best quality grapes they practice Sustainable Winemaking, and are currently on the conversion to Organics.

Cool climate Shiraz is a different style to the usual South Australian set. There is greater importance placed on balance than power. It's far more fragrant, and intense with a more medium body - much more like a French Syrah. In fact they have really adopted that style at Shaw and Smith utilising a whole bunch component in their ferment just as you'd find in a great Rhone. Ageing in French Oak for 14 months with a third of the oak being new, has achieved a near flawless oak finish.

It lures you in with a complex nose of dried herbs, spice, black cherry, red earth, cedar and plum. But the main event is its beguiling palate of cherry, blackberry and truffle with a subtle and silky mouthfeel. It's the meatiest Vegan friendly wine you'll ever taste! This is a masterclass cool climate Shiraz made by people who realise the journey is all about the detail!

Absolutely thrilling wine, that is rarely available in NZ. We snapped it up at a dream price of $39.90 but you could pay up to $54.99 elsewhere. This is cool climate Shiraz with power and depth. A wine of distinctive elegance and class that will last for fifteen years easily in careful storage, providing you with a truly defining wine moment! Don't miss out - stocks are limited. Cheers, Jeff

Another striking release from the masters of cooler climate Shiraz. Shaw & Smith mix the ferment up with a whole-bunch component a la the great Syrah of the Rhone, resulting in a thrillingly complex bouquet of dried herb, raspberry and ripe cherry alongside more classical Shiraz aromas. Only a small amount of it comes into NZ and we nabbed the lion's share a very sharp price. Get in quick as this collectors' dream will sell out fast!

Very complex aromas of dried herb, spice and hazelnut (hallmarks of well-handled whole bunch work) with underlying notes of cedar, red earth, black cherry, truffle and plum.

Amazingly subtle and silky on the palate, with bold notes of cherry, blackberry and truffle the refinement and mouthfeel more like top Grand Cru Burgundy, whilst not compromising its classic flavours. Expect this wine to deliver massively in the cellar and be truly magnificent when revisited from 2029 onwards.
