Description

The old vines at the heart of this wine are over 170 years old (planted in 1847) making them some of the oldest vines in the world. These low yielding vines produce highly concentrated, deep dark Shiraz fruit that is aged for at least 18 months in French and American oak (42% new) to temper its stunning power. The density and complexity of the fruit and sheer depth in this 2017 Turkey Flat Shiraz has seen it awarded Gold (95 pts) at the 2019 Sydney Royal Wine Show as a young wine. Of course, the 2016 was awarded Australian Red Wine of the Year from Langton's Fine Wines - ahead of wines hugely higher in price. Take it from us, this 2017 is a mirror to the quality of the 2016, a 4 x 5 Star winner already, you have to consider its quality, power and sophistication is aligned with Australia’s prestige Shiraz selling for many Hundreds of $$$ /bottle... it’s hard to set them apart. It will cellar 20-years with ease – it can be very much enjoyed in its youth with a couple of hours in the decanter first.

Smells

Concentrated and brooding with powerful blackberry, cassis, dark chocolate and vanilla spice with an exciting savoury complexity.

Tastes

Utterly plush on the palate with blackberry pie, rich cassis, dark chocolate, cinnamon and vanilla spice. The tannins are deeply layered, very fine yet persistent - this is a wine of great power, stature, complexity and finesse... deserving of a quality decanting and immensely rewarding to those prepared to cellar it through the 10-20-year mark. Perfect for your favourite cuts of beef.
