Description
Syrah is the top selling variety for boutique producers Unison, and it's no surprise with stellar releases like this. Great attention to detail was paid in the vineyard, with high planting density and deliberate low yields per vine enable the growing of consistently fully ripened and healthy grapes every year. In the winery, the grapes are de-stemmed and then basket pressed, before being aged for 2 years in 15% new oak and then some time in bottle before being released to the market. A spectacular wine crafted by renowned winemaker Jenny Dobson, it is one of the very best Syrah we've tasted from NZ and deserves a place in any serious collector's cellar.
Smells
A heady and complex perfume of liquorice, toast, cinnamon, dark berries and dark chocolate.
Tastes
Silky, poised and powerful, this wine is full of dark fruits, toasty oak and layers of spices. Beautifully rich with savoury nuances adding interest to the supple fruit, this wine will be at its best between 2021 and 2025 and deserves your favourite roasted red meat.
