Description

Paritua is one of Hawke’s Bay's top producers and this Chardonnay highlights their attention to detail both in the vineyard and winery. Extremely low yielding vines are constantly ‘manicured’ over the season to ensure intensely concentrated grapes are picked at their optimum ripeness. Handpicked bunches are placed in a cool room overnight, pressed slowly and gently the next day and where the free-run juice is put straight to barrel for fermentation. Now labelled Willow but rest assured nothing has changed, in fact this Chardonnay is possibly their best to date.

Smells

a gorgeous nose of warm yellow fruits, warm hay with citrus peel, candied peel, orange blossom with layers of buttered sourdough, vanilla toasty oak and spice.

Tastes

rich, creamy mid-palate but a wine with energy, drive, and precision. Superb acid that harnesses the fruit with a salivating grapefruit pith character to the firm G&T like finish. Lovely white stone fruit, nectarines interwoven with green melon and pear flavours. Judicious oak handling, in a style of its own within the realm of Hawkes Bay. A very well handled, stylish wine. Drinking well now but no rush as will age 6-8 years+ in a temperature-controlled cellar.
