Norm $51.99 - Max 12-bottles @ $41.99

2020 is another ratings juggernaut with Five x 96/100 scores - A tiny 200-case production rarely allocated to NZ... our price is spectacular @ $41.99!

Established in 1989 by wine loving cousins Michael Hill Smith MW and Martin Shaw. Michael was the first Australian to pass the rigorous Master of Wine exams, and Martin a Winemaker… has worked and consulted throughout the world - including here in NZ. Their Adelaide Hills M3 Chardonnay is Top Premier Cru white Burgundy in quality at a fraction of the price. FIVE x 95/100 ratings for this 2020 vintage are boringly typical for this awards juggernaut… it has never rated less than 95/100 for 19 consecutive vintages by icon Aussie critic James Halliday. Grab your share of NZ’s limited annual allocation at Fine Wine Delivery’s spectacular price of $41.99… a rare saving of up to $11/bottle.

These days Adelaide Hills has built a global reputation as arguably Australia's most exciting wine region… in no small way aided by the vast successes if Shaw & Smith. Bordered by Barossa and Eden Valleys, as well as McLaren Vale, the region enjoys a much higher elevation making it cooler and wetter than its South Australian neighbours. To assist in growing the very best quality grapes Shaw & Smith practice Sustainable Winemaking and are well on the way to full conversion to Organics.

2020 is another striking Chardonnay from Australia’s masters of cooler climate wines. Shaw & Smith craft this Chardonnay like Leading Premier Cru white Burgundy. The vineyard is hand tended, the grapes handpicked and sorted with whole bunch press... followed by fermentation in the finest French Oak barriques and pungeons on lees.

The Wine…

Smoky, toasty, vanilla bean, toasted sourdough and lashings of butter... all supported by ripe peach, nectarine and lemon zest. A rich, concentrated and creamy mid-palate with fresh peach, nectarine, buttered popcorn, grilled nuts and mealy seductiveness... intently long it fades away to a warm toasty finish freshened by cleansing lemon zest. A stunning Chardonnay that’s world class and would render similarly priced white Burgundy to being largely rather ordinary by comparison. No rush to drink early, it will live 10-15 years with ease in quality storage, but once tried it will be nigh on impossible to keep your hands off it.

2020 is another ratings juggernaut already with Five x 96/100 scores in tow. The tiny 200 case production makes this a rarity sought after by collectors. We nabbed the lion's share of NZ's allocation... $51.99 elsewhere... Fine Wine Delivery have come up trumps with a spectacular $41.99 price... purchases are restricted to a maximum of 12-bottles per customer. Complex, alluring and elegant... M3 is a wonderful expression of the best of Old & New World Chardonnay Winemaking. It will give you inestimable pleasure over 10-15 years if well stored.

When you are talking iconic producers, Shaw + Smith are perhaps the best in Australia, especially when talking iconic, cool climate producers. They have the Midas touch; all they touch turns to gold. And their wines are for those seeking a European expression of Chardonnay and Shiraz, truly it is unbelievable that these wines are from Aussy. If you love Chardonnay and Syrah from Hawke’s Bay, then these are wines to try……a wonderful combination of the Old World and New.

smoky, toasty, vanilla bean, toasted sourdough with lashings of butter all supported by ripe stone fruit, nectarines and lemon zest.

A rich, creamy mid-palate with great concentration, length and drive with well integrated oak that adds complexity, drawing out the palate giving a warm, toasty finish. Flavours of buttered popcorn, grilled nuts with mealy notes and a cleansing lemon zest add to the intrigue. A stunning Chardonnay that’s world class and would give many a White Burgundy a run for their money. No rush to drink, but it will be impossible to resist.
