EPIC VALUE, TOP SELLING SPANISH RED!

Old Vines, great bottle age, epic value

This four and a half star rated wine has long been a customer favourite. A classic, gutsy Spanish bombshell and a bargain hunter's dream at just $14.99 a bottle

This big, beautiful four and a half star rated wine is from Yecla in the South East of Spain. The region is the home of the Monastrell grape, also known as Mourvedre in France, Mataro in Northern Spain and also in Australia. It's the second most popular grape grown in Spain after Tempranillo. It's best suited to a long hot dry summer - even droughts, where the fruit reaches maximum concentration creating ripe flavours and superb structure.

This wine has long been a customer favourite for us, we've often struggled to keep up with stocks when we promote it, as its quality and value are simply unbeatable. It's a big wine that's light on its feet while it dances across your palate. It's incredibly versatile matching with most grilled meats, Tapas, Mexican type spices, hearty casseroles, eggplant and hard cheeses. It's an absolute must have for your next BBQ. And they always release their reds with a few years of age on them, which at this price is an absolute treat and often hard to find here in our domestic market.

The Castano Family have been making wines since 1950, with most of their original vines still pumping out the good stuff in this Hecula. Ramon Castano was one of the pioneers of the Monastrell grape and today the Family own almost 500 hectares in the region. Their focus has always been on quality. As a family business, they're always looking to protect their environment for the next generation. They practice sustainable winemaking and have introduced many organic processes. They are on the path to a full conversion to Organics, and aim to complete that by 2023.

Those old vines are still packing a fruity punch with plenty of ripe juicy plums sitting alongside the more mature nuances of coffee, chocolate and a hint of liquorice. A great grippy mouthfeel from oak aging and a wonderful tight structural finish - serious wine, that's seriously under-rated!
So grab a case today as your new BBQ go to, while stocks last!

Cheers

Description

If there are better value red wines in the world than Castano's Hecula Monastrell, there aren't many - this latest vintage another statement of intent from the Old Vine Monastrell producer in DO Yecla, Murcia, Spain. Lots of concentration and lots of oak, it's a big wine that's light on its feet, filled with liquorice, coffee and chocolate.

Smells

Dark brooding aromas of plum, blackberry, raspberry and liquorice.

Tastes

Rich and plummy with lots of satisfying grip, coffee, chocolate, pencil shavings and a fresh, tight finish. A serious bottle of red for a very frivolous price, this should be your BBQ meat and winter go-to if you're a bargain hunter.
