Description
The Catena Zapata Catena Malbec is a demonstration of high-altitude terroir. A blend of three different vineyards, Lunlunta (920m), El Cepillo (1090m) and Gualtallary (1450m). After decades of winemaking in Mendoza, the Catena family believes that this combination of sites brings an individual character to this wine. After fermentation the wine was aged for 12 months in a mixture of new and seasoned oak barrels, to ensure that harmony and fruit intensity.
Smells
An attractive perfume of cedar, pencil lead, cedar, blackberries, a mineral lift, and black cherry giving way to coffee grind and a sweet baked berry confiture note.
Tastes
Medium-bodied, it is full of dark fruit, with a silky texture, serious depth, and length for a wine of this price, well-concealed tannin, and a pure finish. Although it can be enjoyed now, this stylish Malbec will continue to improve up until 2030+. Drink with BBQed scotch fillet, stews or if feeling adventurous roast cauliflower and lentil fajitas.
