Description
An intriguing and unique wine, the “Malanotte” is made from the ancient Raboso grape by John Kirwan’s friends at Casa Roma. They share his passion for this historic grape, which is among the longest-lived of all Italian cellar wines, and in the local re-telling of the Last Supper, it was what was served to Jesus Christ Himself! Fittingly the wine spends 24 months in oak casks with some rack-dried grapes, before 12 months further resting in bottle.
Smells
A fascinating array of berry flavours, from blueberry to black cherry and blackberry.
Tastes
Bold and serious with a charming austerity that promises to deliver more with some time in the cellar. Classic bitter, cherry and dusty earth go beautifully together, finishing long and assertive. An unusual wine and a rarity in NZ circles, this is great value for the global explorers among you. Now to 2030.
