Description
The Lavau family began in Saint-Emilion in the 19th Century, continued in Tunisia then returned to France and the Rhone Valley in the 1960’s. They purchased several vineyards throughout the Rhone and partnered with Chateau Maucoil in order to now offer Chateauneuf-du-Pape, the jewel in the crown of the Southern Rhone Valley. There long history, knowledge and experience shines through in all of their wines but this Chateauneuf is a classic example, highlighting the class of the region.
Smells
baked dark berries with complexing meaty, savoury and earthy notes
Tastes
generous upfront fruit greets the palate with baked strawberry flavours, dark chocolate, cedar, smoky and tobacco leaf notes underpinned by coffee grinds. The bold tannins wrap around this generous fruit giving a salivating character, reigning in the big, ripe style. A wine for the cellar for a few years especially considering it’s a 2015, one of the best vintages this century. But if you cannot resist, decant just prior to serving and made for roasted red meats.
