The second great expression of the Nebbiolo grape from Piedmont, Barbaresco is typically more elegant and refined than Barolo, and is often an earlier drinking option around the 5 to 10 year mark - though they do age much longer if you prefer older wines. Pio Boffa presented these 2012 wines to us on a recent trip to NZ and we've been very impressed with how they're developing in bottle. 30 months in large oak "botti", this is a stylish and refined take on this most beautiful of all wine styles.

Beautiful yet assertive on the nose, it's a symphony of florals, leather, berry and cherry fruits, with subtle cedar too.

Seriously stylish and refined in the mouth, you're in no doubt why Barbaresco is one of the world's truly fine wines (and enjoying even more of a boom at the moment worldwide). Pio Cesare's finest wines have been off our shelves for many years, and these 2012s mark a sparkling comeback. Best drinking window: 2017 to 2025.
