Description

The three most recognised red grapes of Piedmont are Dolcetto, Barbera and Nebbiolo, picked in that order and typically drunk in that order, as in Dolcetto’s are made in an early drinking style, Barbera has moderate ageing potential and Nebbiolo is long-lived. Barbera produces vibrant, fruity, juicy wines with moderate tannins and the characteristic salivating, fresh acidity inherent to most Italian red varietals. Offering excellent value for money especially from top producers like Aldo Conterno Conca Tre Pile, a hilly vineyard close to Bussia (a top Barolo vineyard), with vines up to 45 years old. Fermented in stainless steel followed by several months barrel ageing. Perfect drinking now through 2028 with cheese and cured meats.

Smells

lifted aromas of sun-ripened black cherries, red/black berries, violets, liquorice, blueberries, and spice

Tastes

vibrant, juicy with a nervosity providing drinking pleasure. Energy charges through the palate with vibrant flavours, raspberries, strawberries, and red cherries with hints of maraschino cherries. Silky, smooth tannins, dry, full-bodied with a drawn-out, salivating, chalky finish.
