Description
Just like Unico and Alion, Pintia is part of the famous Vega Sicilia group and is made from 100% Tempranillo. And thankfully for us all there are tiers where Unico is at the pinnacle, followed by Alion, often referred to as the little brother of Alion, albeit Alion is made in a modern style compared with the traditional handling found in Unico, and then Pintia. Pintia is one of the great wines of the D.O. Toro and created at Bodegas Pintia, still carrying all the greatness of everything Vega Sicilia but at a slightly more affordable price point.
Smells
On the nose there is power and complexity with deep aromas of blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, hints of violets and toasty oak influences.
Tastes
those same berry fruit aromas continue throughout the palate with liquorice, a potpourri of exotic spice and woodsmoke notes on the finish. There is vibrancy, concentration with a very persistent ending. The tannins/acid profile speak of Tempranillo, silky smooth tannins, slightly Pinot Noir-esque and with a striking acid vein. Delicious now or wait 10 years+ and reap the rewards. Serve with roast pork or lamb.
