Aged six years before release to the market... no Pinot in the country will likely outlive Hans Herzog in the cellar. We tried the 2006 last year (2018) at their Michelin-quality restaurant and it looks to have at least another decade in it. Hans makes hand crafted wines in the truest sense... his vines are fastidiously and organically managed, the fruit handpicked, and hand sorted, the winemaking a mix of traditional Burgundian and best features of the New World, and all without regard to expense. In fact, his fruit yields are so low it does not make financial sense. We are very fortunate Hans & Therese Herzog left behind 500-years of wine growing lineage in Switzerland to begin again in Marlborough over two decades ago. Unfettered by commercial considerations Hans adopts an experimentalist stance, producing highly acclaimed, age worthy wines rich in in varietal character. True to the adage: quality over quantity. A force of experience in winemaking and viticulture, the varietal specialist is one of the country’s most respected winemakers and his famed wines have stolen hearts all over the world.

Classic Burgundian mix of sweet and savoury aromas revealing the benefits of 6-years in the bottle.

Pinot Noir for the purest and a nod to Burgundy with its sweet/savoury palate littered with subtle spices, very fine oak, red and black fruits and elegant savoury complexities. The tannins are compact and gently mouth coating and the natural acidity rounds out a beautifully made and balanced Pinot Noir. 6-years aging has already been done for you, so start enjoying now, no hurry, save a bottle or two to enjoy 2035! It deserves to be opened with a special meal, lightly spiced game dishes come to mind.
