Description
A simply stunning release from Joel and the team at Luna Estate, this Pinot Noir was hand-picked from two separate vineyards. Two blocks from the Blue Rock Vineyard, Piper's Block (planted in 1986) and Jim's Block (planted 1995). All bunches were destemmed, and the ferment allowed to occur spontaneously with a total maceration time of 29 days. The Eclipse Vineyard (planted 1992) fruit was split, with a portion destemmed and another fermented 100% whole cluster, again with spontaneous fermentation and a total of 32 days maceration. After pressing the wine was aged for 12 months in a mixture new and seasoned French oak puncheons. With only 2500 bottles produced, this is a must have for any Martinborough and NZ Pinot lover!
Smells
Very full aromas of dark cherries, raspberries, baking spices and cedar with floral highlights and savoury gamey notes.
Tastes
Great depth on the palate, boundless berry fruit and spice with violets and mushrooms. Silky smooth tannins are pitch perfect leading into a very impressive and expansive finish. Enjoy now with Beef Wellington or cellar comfortably to 2032+.
