Description
Named after Harry Tehau Tipinui Otu Donaldson, grandfather of the Donaldson clan. Tehau Reserve Pinot Noir is made in only the finest years when the Pegasus Bay winemaking team identify select barrels of superior quality displaying the purest expression of the vintage and their Waipara Valley terroir. This 2019 is just a baby, but already exudes the deeply savoury complexities underpinning the sweet old vine fruit making it a memorable glass of Pinot Noir.
Smells
Intense red and black berries, baking spice and woodsmoke, with hints of Kola nut and forest floor emerging.
Tastes
Concentrated sweet red berries, contrasting savoury cherries, kola nut and baking spice. The tannins are beautifully engaging and the acidity fresh. If opening before 2022, the wine will benefit from at least one hour in the decanter. The rewards of ageing will begin to shine through after 2022 up to 2029, perhaps longer. Enjoy with venison in a red wine and mushroom jus.
