Description
There is little doubt that Pinot Noir is more expensive to grow than other grapes, hence why the best ones always command a premium. But Mount Brown in Waipara, North Canterbury has forged quite a reputation for themselves as producing wines that consistently punch miles above their weight, their Grand Reserve Pinot Noir being the most famous example. Made in small quantities and only in the best years, it should be on the list of every canny Pinot Noir buyer in NZ.
Smells
A haunting bouquet of dried herbs, cherries, and delicate florals. Very high-toned and serious.
Tastes
Structured, elegant, and very fine, with brooding notes of blackberry and cherry – this is Pinot from the very top drawer. Poised and elegant in its youth, it will age beautifully for a decade or more. Serve with your favourite roasted red meats or game.
