Description

From the north-facing section of the Pyramid Valley Home Block, Angel Flower is named after the yarrow weed, with its fine, fennel-like leaves and white flowers. This useful little weed produces the base for the biodynamic preparation 502 and the pioneer Rudolf Steiner said you can never have enough yarrow on your land, and this block certainly lends some credence to the theory. Angel Flower is always the most ethereal and perfumed of the two Home Pinot Noirs, perhaps more feminine but with a bold and concentrated character that comes from the low yields and close-planted vines (10 to 12,000 vines per hectare).

Smells

Instantly pretty and appealing, but with an underlying exotic spice character to go with all the red cherry, wild strawberry and floral notes.

Tastes

Seductive and very silky in the mouth, with a glorious spicy caramel edge to it, Angel Flower shows hints of lavender and has an emotional intensity that's difficult to put into words. Part autumn, part roasting meat, there's so much going on and it's all packed into a deceptively pretty package. Very approachable now but much better from 2020 onwards.
