RESTRICTED OFFER... RIPPON PINOT AWARDED A MASSIVE 99/100

Global Critic James Suckling goes GAGA

Restricted Offer... 99/100 James Suckling... the 2nd highest internationally rated NZ Pinot Noir. 2010 Rippon Mature Vine Pinot the only 100/100 rated NZ wine.

Last year from Rippon’s Cellars we offered to select customers... the 2010 Rippon Mature Vine Pinot Noir. The only NZ Pinot Noir to ever secure a perfect 100/100 rating which came from Leading Global Critic James Suckling. Every bottle was rapidly snapped up at $118.99... a fraction of the price of a Grand Cru Burgundy that it is the equivalent of. We were so mesmerised by 2017 Rippon Mature Vine Pinot Noir we showcased it is our Festive Season Brochure at the striking price of $59.90... the price of a reasonable Burgundy Village Pinot Noir. This week James Suckling released his NZ wine reviews topped by a massive 99/100 for this 2017 release... now under huge supply pressure with abundant global interest.

The wine...

We've been privileged to try long verticals of this Rippon Mature Vine Pinot Noir right back to 1991 and have witnessed this wine's remarkable ability to develop over time. This 2017 vintage is both enigmatic and charming in its youth... it’s initially reticent aromatics blossom into something special as it sits in the glass. Deep and very concentrated with signature tannin structure that comes from the interaction of the roots with the schist soils, this is a classic Rippon Mature Vine Pinot Noir... its combination of purity, elegance, subtlety and minerality are a nod to its bio-dynamic environment.

We’re definitely in the “Lucky Country” when we can pay $59.90 for a Pinot Noir the ilk of Burgundy Grand Cru selling for hundreds of dollars per bottle... in some cases thousands. This Mature Vine Pinot Noir has all the pretty aromas, brooding delicacy and subtle intent of a top level Burgundy Grand Cru. 99/100 James Suckling underpins that... miss this Pinot and you’re missing out on a very special wine by any standards. NZ Pinot lovers should make it essential buying and those with a cellar full of red Burgundy... be prepared to be awakened. Enjoy, Jeff

Description

A cellar tasting of 2010 Rippon Mature Vine Pinot last year by James Suckling drew NZ’s first and only ever perfect 100/100 international rating. James has followed up with a massive 99/100 on this 2017 vintage... if he rates it again from the cellars as a 10-year old Pinot... he is bound to repeat that elusive perfect score.

Smells

Complex and delicate aromas of cherry, subtle vanilla, savoury cured meats, nutty oak and gentle rose florals.

Tastes

Juicy and immediately charming with its pristine cherry fruits and subtle savoury complexities. Mid palate the very fine-grained tannin structure kicks in quickly to remind you this is serious Pinot Noir. Herb-infused and delicately expressive, the slatey mineral character that defines Rippon’s terroir is a standout feature. Still very restrained upon release... such is the balance it drinks amazingly well in its youth and exhibits all the hallmarks of the 100/100 2010 Rippon Mature Vine. All that's left now to do is wait until 2027 and drink through 2037+. Double decant if drinking now... don’t leave to long exposed to air so to enjoy its amazingly pure aromatics.
