New 2020 Release Cult Aussie Chardonnay

Giant Steps Yarra Valley Winery has just released their impressive 2020 Chardonnay... so stunning we've gone 97/100 - NZ's tiny allocation won't last @ $39.99

Giant Steps from the Yarra Valley produce Chardonnay with exceptional finesse, simplicity and texture... in the French white Burgundy style. Since 2003 they have been awarded 34 trophies & 100+ Gold medals in global and domestic shows.... along with a bag full of high 90’s ratings. Their wines are in demand domestically and globally. This new 2020 is so fresh out of the winery it has not even made the critics tables yet... but our panel have not held back giving it a massive 97/100... we believe the critics will come up with similar ratings... but by then it will have long sold. This will be one of your greatest Chardonnay acquisitions at $39.99 if you’re quick to grab a 6-pack.

Giant Steps have a fastidious approach to vineyard management, with the most well-manicured vines you will ever see, as they believe if you have great grapes, you’ll make great wine. An ethos that has seen them named a Top 100 Winery for each of the last six years and named Top Australian Winery of the year four times by Wine & Spirits Magazine US. They are a 5-star James Halliday rated winery, and Winemaker Steve Flamsteed was Gourmet Traveller’s Australian Winemaker of the Year in 2016.

The wine...

With very low yields, comes naturally higher acidity and incredible bright fruit flavours. You get an instantly appealing profile, but one that you know will unfold well with time as it has superb structure. The grapes were all hand-picked, whole bunch pressed and fermented in 500 litre French Puncheons (10% of which were new). with no lees stirring. 20% of the wine underwent spontaneous malolactic fermentation before being put into a combination of 10% new and 90% old French barrels for eight months.

The result is an incredible palate intensity... with an orchard full of sun ripened nectarines and peaches, a waft of citrus and a seductive blossom note. A rich spicy hazelnut note adds to its incredible complexity and texture. Rich and creamy, with a vibrant acidity that lingers on and on. This is a statement wine, that will suit foods that make a statement too, so don't be afraid of bold flavours as it certainly has the legs! Match with roasted chicken with preserved lemon and garlic, or fried soft shell crab bao buns with fresh coriander and micro greens.

This is seductive wine, made with outstanding fruit and skillful winemaking – deserving of a Fine Wine Delivery 97/100. Secure yours today at the wonderful price of $39.99, before it all disappears... and enjoy now through to 2025!

From the 2016 Gourmet Traveller WINE Winemaker of the Year, Steve Flamsheed, comes a very impressive Chardonnay. 100% handpicked fruit from 5 Yarra Valley vineyards, ferment with wild yeast in 500L French puncheons (10% new, 90% seasoned), this is a vibrant and creamy Chardonnay that will dazzle Chardonnay lovers with its complexity and finesse. The previous vintage scored a dazzling 98/100 from James Halliday, and you can bet this equally stunning 2020 will be receiving many plaudits soon enough.

Concentrated aromas of peach, grapefruit, lemon zest and hazelnuts with a hint of brioche.

Such intensity on the palate, peaches, nectarines, citrus zest and white flowers with spicy oak hazelnut character adding to the complexity. A rich and creamy texture is balanced by vibrant acidity leading into a lengthy finish. Enjoy now or until 2025, with seafood dishes or roast pork.
