SERIOUSLY GOOD CHARDONNAY, SERIOUSLY GOOD DEAL!

New Zealand's Oldest Winery Mission Estate, literally have a room full of their Trophies and Medals won since they were established back in 1851. They produce a huge range of wines priced at every level from affordable to collectible - each representing great quality and seriously good value along the way. And none more so than their Reserve tier wines which offer great excitement when they come on promotion!

This classic Hawke's Bay Chardonnay not only looks 'Reserve tier' in its stylish new packaging, but it tastes it too!

2020 was a magnificent vintage in Hawke's Bay, and it really shows. Complex and powerful with an orchard full of ripe peaches and nectarines, offset by a wonderful balance of toasty oak characters and a gentle acidity. It is soft and creamy with a wonderful textural mouthfeel, and will develop more buttery flavours in the coming months as it unfolds.

It is a wine that has had the full gambit of winemaking love - handpicked fruit off low yielding vines at least twenty years old, gently pressed and straight into expensive French Oak barrels for fermentation with a portion using indigenous yeasts. Then the complexity and creamy mouthfeel is set with six months of lees aging, and further time in barrel to round out this powerful wine.

$19.99 for a wine of this pedigree seems crazy ... or fortuitous for you the drinker, SO STOCK UP WHILE YOU CAN!

Description

Established in 1851, Mission Estate is NZ's oldest winery. The fruit for this Reserve Barrique fermented Chardonnay is hand-picked from low yielding vines well over 20-years old. Gentle pressing then straight to expensive French Barrels for fermentation with a portion of indigenous yeasts, 6 months lees-aging further enhances the complexity. No malolactic fermentation provides extra freshness and fruit weight to this already powerfully flavoured wine.

Smells

Ripe peach/nectarine with toasty oak, roasted nut and subtle shortcake notes.

Tastes

Delicious combination of fresh, perfectly ripe stone fruits and toasty/spicy oak. The fresh fruit is nicely contrasted by gentle acid and a creamy textural thread. It will develop a more buttery core in the coming months and drink nicely through 2023 and beyond.
