Description

Few estates in New Zealand match Ata Rangi for sheer ambition in Pinot Noir. These lofty goals are reflected in this Crimson Pinot Noir - where other producers would be happy to trot out something soft and accessible, Ata Rangi seek to make a genuine 5-Star wine that will develop with time (although still be more accessible than their famous Grand Vin). This 2019 vintage is a masterclass from winemaker Helen Masters, a serious expression of their organically managed Martinborough terroir.

Smells

Freshly mown summer hay, red and black cherry, cured meat, plum and a subtle thread of French Oak.

Tastes

Long and focused, a wave of plush cherry and berry fruits are released with savoury and herbal complexities threading the palate buoyed by long, fine tannins. A classy, serious, medium bodied Pinot Noir, very accessible now but with plenty of potential for improvement over the next 5+ years. Great value and a winner with Peking Duck now through 2026.
