Description

A new addition to the Mondavi portfolio where winemaking and spirits combine, that of ageing Californian Cabernet Sauvignon in used barrels from a selected, renowned Kentucky distillery. Perhaps this new trend of ageing wine in bourbon or rum casks is catching on, Australians are doing it too. This is not about subtlety, in fact the complete opposite, big, bold and in your face. Uber ripe fruit provides the basis for this bold style, sweet fruit is supported by the bourbon flavoured oak. Some will love it.

Smells

surprisingly, strong Cabernet aromas meet your nose, sun baked blackcurrants, cedar and tobacco leaves with notes of brown sugar, milk chocolate and ginger suggestive of the oak.

Tastes

It really is where wine and spirits come together, however the Cabernet stamp is strong on the palate and the barrels add a slight resinous character with caramel, and mocha notes. A full-bodied wine with rustic, somewhat drying tannins that would soften by decanting prior to serving. Perfect in front of the fire with a hearty stew.
