Potiki is a new World Class Chardonnay from Ata Rangi. A potpourri of richness, power, elegance - the flavours are pure, the oak beautifully harmonised and the finish has a refreshing saline edge like fine French white Burgundy.

2019 was a super vintage in Martinborough and every bit of its beauty is captured in this Prestige Chardonnay, that with every sip repeatedly draws you back to the glass. It’s utterly seductive drinking and at our special release price of $34.99 it's priced like a white Burgundy Village Chardonnay but drinks like serious Premier Cru.

About Potiki.
Ata Rangi are consistently NZ’s most revered producer, everything they touch turns to gold! Potiki (meaning ‘last born’ in Maori) Chardonnay is an exciting new addition to their family wine portfolio blended from a clonal selection of newer plantings on the Martinborough Terrace. The flavours are pure, the oak beautifully harmonised and the finish has a refreshing saline edge like fine French white Burgundy. It replaces the iconic Craighall Chardonnay (vines have been pulled and replanted) which sits in NZ’s Prestige Chardonnay category, so, its mid-premium price is utterly irresistible. It will evolve through 2026 and drink a further 5 years with ease if well stored.

The Wine.
Engaging aromas of yellow skinned peach, buttery French toast and delicate anise overwhelm and seduce. Rich Chardonnay with a creamy texture and salivating, salty acidity portraying purity and freshness – it has enticing energy that draws you back repeatedly for another mouthful. Potiki encapsulates concentration and power without compromise to elegance, it is impossible to resist. Peach, pureed apple and custard flavours give way to toast and vanilla with a salted lemon skin zest on the long, lingering finish. It will continue to harmonise further through 2026 but is utterly delicious as a young Chardonnay. A brief 15-minute decant would present it perfectly. Ideal with grilled pork chops and roast pork shoulder, also with fatty seafood dishes.

Ata Rangi will attract abundant disciples to this outstanding new Potiki Chardonnay. Beautifully crafted from the superb 2019 vintage its richness, power, elegance & purity in complete harmony. Adding new excitement to the Prestige Kiwi Chardonnay category at an exceptional price. I can’t overstate its quality and value at $34.99.

Enjoy, JEFF

Description

Consistently the most revered NZ producer where everything they touch turns to gold and this new addition to their family will not disappoint. Potiki meaning ‘last born’ in Maori is blended from a selection of newer plantings on the Martinborough Terrace. More reactive to the vintage conditions than their older vines, but they read the conditions well, a stunning new sibling to their range. Only the second release, the 2019 really steps it up a gear, don’t wait as you will kick yourself if you miss out on this beauty.
