Description
The site of Marlborough's first vineyard in the 1870s, Auntsfield Estate as it's now known, has gone firmly into the 21st century with this stylish 2021 Chardonnay. Winemaker Luc is not a fan of malolactic fermentation, believing it obscures the 'sense of place' of the wine. He's more than made up for it though with this toasty style of Chardonnay, the vibrant acid line keeping all the toastiness and fruit in line and making your mouth water for another glass. An excellent Chardonnay from a winery with a reputation for them, it's at its best between now and 2027.
Smells
Ripe and intense stone fruit flavours of peach and dried apricots are complimented by subtle French Oak influence.
Tastes
Concentrated tropical fruit give way to subtle creaminess, nice leesy complexity and a kiss of roasted hazelnut-like French Oak. The acid thread is captivating and magically weaves throughout the palate giving energy and charisma, as is the warming after taste of butter and salted popcorn. Delicious with white meats or vegetarian salads.
