Description
Established in 1851, Mission Estate is NZ's oldest winery. The fruit for this Reserve Barrique fermented Chardonnay is hand-picked from low yielding vines well over 20-years old. Gentle pressing then straight to expensive French Barrels for fermentation with a portion of indigenous yeasts, 6 months lees-aging further enhances the complexity. No malolactic fermentation provides extra freshness and fruit weight to this already powerfully flavoured wine.
Smells
Ripe peach/nectarine with toasty oak, roasted nut and subtle shortcake notes.
Tastes
Delicious combination of fresh, perfectly ripe stone fruits and toasty/spicy oak. The fresh fruit is nicely contrasted by gentle acid and a creamy textural thread. It will develop a more buttery core in the coming months and drink nicely through 2025 and beyond. The recommended serving temperature is 10-13 degrees.
