Enjoy one of Wine Spectator’s Top 100 Wines of 2021, with this rich and rounded 2019 Chardonnay from iconic Californian, Chalk Hill Winery.

This prestigious label used to be rarer than hen’s teeth in NZ, until the Foley Family acquired it and a small allocation opened up to us via their Kiwi winery assets. We sold a tiny parcel of their Russian River Chardonnay mid last year, made entirely of estate grown fruit, and it was snapped up in no time at all! This tier is a cooler climate representation using selected parcels from the wider Sonoma County area. Cooler temperatures have increased the vibrancy of fruit, and a dialed up oak regime has imparted incredible structure.

Aged in a mix of French, American and Hungarian oak - 22% of which was brand new, with extensive battonage to add aromatic complexity and richness. 100% of the wine went through malolactic fermentation before aging for eleven months, sur lie - on its lees.

But even better! This wine was named No. 84 in the Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines of 2021, with the salivating tasting note below…

“Subtle gold tones shine through in this 2019 Sonoma Coast Chardonnay. Aromas of red apple and ripe pear meld with hints of honeysuckle and orange-peel and a bit of toasty marshmallow. A bright entry gives way to a creamy, rich texture with extended notes of caramel and Macintosh apple, and a long, clean, juicy finish.”

It's unashamedly full bodied, but beautifully balanced! Rife to the core with sweet nectarine and peach, wrapped in complex layers of butter and cream. A smorgasbord of toast, nuttiness, biscuit and butter, balanced by ripe golden stone fruit. Skillfully made with no expense spared, a rare example of concentration and finesse, designed to seduce you with its incredible richness and texture.

Californian Chardonnay of this calibre is a rare thing here in NZ, and Chalk Hill have worked tirelessly since 1972, learning their terroir and honing their craft, to earn a world-class reputation.

Treat yourself to a rare, memorable wine experience, with a benchmark Chardonnay from this highly sought after region. Sadly there is only a small allocation available, at our fantastic release offer of just $39.99 ONLY WHILE STOCKS LAST

Smells

Enticing aromoas of toasty oak, biscuity, mealy complexity, creme brulee, buttered nuts and golden summer stone fruits.

Tastes
